Animal Life

            Animals in the desert have adapted to the heat of the sun and the sand in many ways. Some became nocturnal or developed special paws of fur/talons.

 

Dromedary Camels


The Dromedary Camel's hump stores extra fat and water.

 Also, Dromedary Camels have a special "3 lipped" mouth with a tough top two lips , it can eat almost any plant.

Kangaroo Rats


Kangaroo rats have strong hind legs for jumping and a long tail for balance so they don't have to run across the hot sand.

They can forage seeds and small plants and burrow in the sand for protection with their for-paws.

Fennec Fox



The Fennec Fox's paws have special fur to protect their paws from the really hot sand.

Their coat is white and tan and helps it camouflage with the sand.

 Lapped Face Vulture



The Lapped Face Vulture has a large wing span to help it catch wind currents to rise up into the sky while looking for lunch.

Their beaks are large and heavy perfect for tearing apart the skin of its long dead victims.

Emperor Penguins


Empire Penguins have thick warm feathers to protect it from the blistering cold of the south cold.

The winters in Antartica are very cold the male Emperor Penguins have a special flap that while they are balancing the egg on their feet a flap closes and you can't see the egg at all. It just looks like a bulge.
